Learning Design Compass · Teacher prototype

A thinking companion.
A teacher’s direction.

StudySidekick helps students develop their own thinking. Choose the learning focus, resources and boundaries, then create instructions for an AI learning companion in ChatGPT Projects.

Your learning context. Your settings.

Your draft stays in this browser tab during the session. No configuration is sent to a server. Avoid adding student personal information.

How it works

From teaching intent to learning support

01 · Configure

Work through seven stages. Choose resources and the support students can receive. Guided support is the starting point; you remain in control.

02 · Create

Generate a complete text configuration on your device. This site does not run an AI assistant or store student work.

03 · Try and review

Set up a Project, add your resources and test realistic student questions before inviting learners. Collect pilot feedback and refine the settings.

Teacher guide & pilot resources

Prepare a small, supported pilot

  1. Create and review your configuration above.
  2. In ChatGPT, create a Project. Place the generated runtime and configuration in its instructions, or add the text file as a Project source and instruct ChatGPT to use it as the StudySidekick runtime. If instructions exceed the available space, use the file approach.
  3. Add the resource files named in your configuration. Confirm that ChatGPT can actually read each resource before relying on it.
  4. Test a correct response, an incomplete response, a request for the answer, an assessment task, a safety concern and a conflicting resource. Check a learning-assistance report.
  5. Check your school’s approved account, privacy and sharing arrangements before student use. Do not place private teacher answer keys in a student-accessible Project: prompting does not provide access control.
  6. When settings change, replace the configuration in the Project too. Downloaded configurations do not synchronise automatically.

Original pilot pack: the earlier pilot PDF, runtime pack and feedback form were not available as downloadable files in the supplied website. Add approved copies here before wider release. This prototype guide is new and does not replace those materials.
